Transplanting
and Site Selection for Grace
Hybrid American Hollies
Otpimum transplanting time is late summer or
early fall, after new growth has hardened.
Grace Hybrid Hollies require well-drained
soils. Newly transplanted hollies should be kept moist
for at least the first growing season. Mulching over root
zone
will help retain moisture but keep mulch 4-6 inches away
from trunk to avoid decay. Full sun will encourage
dense
branching
and maximum fruiting, shade will develop more open plants
with less fruit, but larger, darker, and more lustrous
foliage. Optimum transplanting time is late summer through
early fall.
This will reduce transplant shock and allow plant to adjust
to the new location quickly. Spring transplants are usually
slower to adapt. |
