Pruning
& Fertilizing of Grace
Hybrid American Hollies
Hollies like to be fertilized annually. A slow
release fertilizer should be broadcasted over root zone in
mid spring.
Grace Hybrid Hollies have been bread for strong
structure and uniform branching to withstand the heavy
snow loads of the northeast. Little or no pruning is necessary
to develop plants like the 60-year-old "natural" specimens
you will see if you visit Pride Nursery. However Grace
Hybrid Hollies respond well to pruning or shearing. At Pride
Nursery,
you can view a 5-6' tall hedge of Grace Hybrid Hollies
over 35 years old! Just remember shearing can reduce berry
crop
and avoid pruning summer-early fall because any
growth encouraged that late may not mature enough to endure
the
winter without
damage.
